Ranelagh Balloon Flight & Pearse SchoolsPosted Thursday, September 25, 2008There are two Ranelagh mentions in the Irish Times today. One concerns Patrick Pearse's legacy as an educator, with regard to the school in Cullenswood House, and the other is an entry in the Irishman's Diary column about the unveiling of a statue in Ranelagh Gardens to commemorate the balloon launch there in 1785 by a fellow called Richard Crosbie. posted by Drew Shiel | 5:56 AM

comments Charleston Road Listed BuildingPosted Friday, August 08, 2008The Dublin People has an article up about the entry of 34 Charleston Road on the Record of Protected Structures. It seems the owner wasn't correctly notified when the building was listed, and in any case, says that the house has "no particular architectural merit; that there was no historical association with a famous person or event; that it was not part of an interesting group of buildings; that it did not illustrate any point of social or economic history and that it was not built with any technological innovation or virtuosity." Dublin City Council seem to differ. posted by Drew Shiel | 1:53 AM

comments O'Gara Claims Intention To BuildPosted Wednesday, June 18, 2008According to the Herald, Noel O'Gara intends to build a house in Dartmouth Square in Ranelagh. He claims that a "loophole" exists in the law concerning planning permission, which means he doesn't have to get it. However, unless he intends to build it himself, I suspect he'll have a tough time finding builders. Labels: dartmouth square, o'gara, ranelagh posted by Drew Shiel | 10:52 PM

comments Starbucks in RanelaghPosted Saturday, May 17, 2008According to the Irish Independent, there's going to be a branch of Starbucks opening in Ranelagh. They're looking to expand to a London level, where you're never more than 10 minutes from a branch. If they start to use the late opening times that they have in the UK and the US, I can see this being a roaring success for them. posted by Drew Shiel | 4:44 AM

comments Sponsored Post: Keystone InsurancePosted Monday, January 21, 2008Considering the number of construction and building projects going on in Ranelagh these days, not to mention all the new businesses, this seems an appropriate time to post a review of Keystone Insurance's public liability insurance. Public liability insurance is a special kind of insurance policy designed to cover a business, should anyone come to harm on the property, or due to the activities - or negligence - of the business or employees. Keystone, specialising in the construction trade, deal with more than a dozen construction insurers to make sure that they provide customers with the best possible premiums as well as the most comprehensive cover available. They have a comprehensive, easy to use site, and your best interests are their major concern. In recent years, public liability insurance claims have become more frequent, as members of the public have a greater awareness of their rights. Since the introduction of "no win no fee" claims, people have found it even easier to make claims against unsuspecting businesses. Without public liability insurance, your business can be held responsible for claims of up to €2.6 million. So if you're a construction company operating in Ranelagh, or if you're hiring one, do consider getting Keystone involved. Labels: insurance, sponsored post posted by Drew Shiel | 10:35 AM

comments Ranelagh Street NewsThere have been a number of changes to Ranelagh's shopping and other businesses in the last few months. Most notable is probably the opening of a new Superquinn just off the Triangle. Opposite that, Centra have moved into where McDonalds used to be, and the old space is being renovated to combine the two into one huge convenience store. Diep Noodle Bar have expanded with a new takeaway branch, Diep at Home, and best of all, Michie Sushi are now doing deliveries.posted by Drew Shiel | 5:43 AM
